Melissa and Kent Sorrells were in the beginning stages of a major overhaul of their master bathroom when they stopped by to see the renovation of a friend’s home completed by Gary and Cathy Pursell of Creative Heights Partners in Little Rock. They were so impressed with the finished product that they enlisted the Pursells to take on their bathroom. “We knew immediately that their taste and style were a perfect match for us,” Melissa says.

Gary reworked their existing plans to maximize each space’s function and create access to the adjacent sun patio via a sleek door in the steam shower.  Views of the verdant patio area fill the oversized window, meshing nicely with the natural materials and Old-World influence of the bathroom’s new fixtures. “Gary is fantastic at listening to your description of what you want,” Melissa says, “but his creation surpasses even your best expectations.”

Cathy designed the floor’s tumbled tile design along with the backsplashes and shower, working with Melissa to choose items with a slightly rustic flavor. “Melissa has a great eye and knows what she likes,” Cathy says. The custom-made knotty alder cabinetry and exposed wooden beams are paired with tumbled marble in a range of neutrals with splashes of terra cotta and wrought-iron fixtures.

Not only is the space a stunning example of functional design, it takes the relaxing aesthetic the Sorrells requested to an entirely new level. “I constantly find myself thinking ‘Wow! Is this really my bathroom?’” Melissa says.
